I love the fact that I can take my quickbooks online anywhere and bill clients on the go. I can use my phone , surface, or laptop to send estimates or invoices in the field. All transactions sync instantly so while i am on the road my secretary can take payments and all is good. The set up is fairly simple, and the ability to add services and products is perfect for my computer retail store and should work good for most retail service locations.
The price is high per month, and quickbooks has increased once on me in the past year with no noticeable changes in the software. The option to export your data data file completly can only be done by calling in and using the old internet explorer. Support is almost nonexistent. It is terrible the reps keep you on hold for long periods of time if they answer at all.
If done correctly you can eliminate having an accountant when using this software.
I like the ease of linking banking accounts, and I like the mobile apps interface.
I dislike that pretty standard features like sorting by class is only available at very expensive subscription levels
Easy to do invoicing and expense transactions in the go
Smooth functionality, flexibility, online.
When I need it, their online service is down, and I have no access to anything. They're at a 98% uptime, when a service like this needs to be at 99.99%
Mobile access, when it works.
I like that I can search for any of our customers or inventory and the program will generate results without the search being to specific. This makes looking for an invoice quick and easy.
I do not like how I have to complete so many recaptcha challenges. I don't have time while I'm pulling up a customer file to click on all the pictures with a street sign in them. It is beyond irritating. I understand the safety feature but there should be something simpler, like a secondary password.
We keep a customer database and records of all transactions. We also use it for bill pay for the company. So all of the paper trail of money is in one place.
It's easy to understand, and takes time to learn it. But still good for accounting and sending it to accountants office.
It doesn't have much useful information when it comes to reconciliation.
We are using it for accounting purposes, and it's easier to stay organized so we continue to use it.
Easy to use, convenient, right on the phone and easily works with Android.
Limited features and no adaptability of features to individual busiensses. Will not suit all customers in all situations
Contractor payments and invoicing and quotations.
Quickbooks online has been making some improvements over the past couple of years. I like its cloud-based infrastructure that we can share with our accountants. I like that I can use 3rd party apps to upload records.
There is significant latency with the interface, so you have to be very patient while things load. While the interface is pretty, I can't decide whether it is unnecessarily complicated, or unnecessarily dumbed down... all I know is that using the software adds to my overall levels of stress and frustration. Sometimes, lists of customers or vendors get hidden, so you can't click from customer to customer or vendor to vendor; rather you need to reload the Customer's home tab... there are lots of places like this where you need to click three places to accomplish something that could easily be done with a single click. Want to views the customer on the invoice you're viewing? Remember their name, then cancel out of the Invoice, then open up the customers tab, and then search for her or him. Preposterous. I get the sense that Intuit thinks its customers are stupid, so they provide lots of skewomorphic page effects that are completely unnecessary. Open an invoice, and (after 5-15 seconds of loading) it slides in, like a piece of paper, over what you were viewing. I'd rather be able to click intuitively through the system and have the interface open quickly.
Collaboration with our off-site accountant.
Back in the beginning, QB was deemed an "Accountant's Nightmare and a Bookkeeper's Dream". After 28 years of working with QB and as a bookkeeper and an accountant and an owner, I feel I can speak from all sides. QBO is a wonderful tool for owners who are constantly on the move. Everything is linked, you can get up to the minute information about the status of your financial information and so much more. However, without getting into details, a bookkeeper's job is data entry. Depending on the level of the bookkeeper determines the type of work of course. Regardless of the tasks, I have only seen tasks that would take 15 minutes on a desktop version can take 2 to 3 times as long with the online version and this is if there are no issues with online connectivity. Intuit clearly needs to develop a hybrid system where a bookkeeper can work locally on a PC without any worries of technical issues with a link that hooks to the online version for the owner to see what is going on. I have seen so much waste over the years and honestly do not understand this new generation where waste is an acceptable cost of doing business.
Bank feed is ridiculous for a bookkeeper. A bookkeeper should have already entered everything before it hits the bank. What I see happening all the time is the owner Adding or Transferring instead of simply ignoring this feed causing the bookkeeper to have to correct the errors.
One infuriating problem is losing very long journal entries by getting timed out long before the time out feature is reached. This also brings up another issue: A bookkeeper should not have to be timed out as he/she is to work for not only 8 hours but many times they need to work on spreadsheets or other documents and come back to QBO to complete the work. If they should have 10 tabs open as this is a "Multitasking" world, even refreshing a screen after you resign in, does not bring them back to what they were doing. They have to redo all the work again to get back to where they were.; A technical issue I have found for this premature kicking out is something to do with Cache. Every now and then you need to empty the entire contents of the browsing history in Chrome. I do not know if this is only a Chrome issue or if it is seen among other OSs or browsers but I have heard of similar issues by several people. I have submitted many help requests but always get the typical responses of - "Delete the cache". This does not help anyone while working on a 1 hour journal entry.
Ease of use for non-accountants. Anyone can learn to do basic function in QBO in a very short period of time. Product is intuitive.
Designed accounting processes round their amazing search - real time filtering of the ENTIER database. Anything could be searched by typing in the main search window. Search included all fields, including attachments without having to know what fields to search. This was the most amazing search and was THE best feature in QBO. We used for over a year, but when it no longer worked, QB support did not even know it existed. After escalation, found one person who admitted it did exist, but they had know idea why it was taken away. There was mention of clusters, which use different versions of QBO. We were on a cluster that had that search functionality. No one can tell us why it was taken away. This was the best feature. Why would they not roll out to other clusters, rather than take it way?
access from anywhere was a big plus.
How simple and fast it is to process a check
It's hard to catch duplicated entries
Accounting. Benefits, it's simple and easy to figure out.
Easy to use functions, clear design format.
Not advanced - revenue recognition extremely manual.
We are able to recognize payment application easily and locate customers.
There can be multiple users and there is no issue. It is an easy program to use. It is easy to enter and pay bills to vendors.
It is not great to customize invoices. Price increases for the services have been a turn off for the services.
Clients like being able to access their data and send invoices and it's easy for clients to pay their invoices. I use it for full bookkeeping, cost allocation, bank reconciliation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reports and more.
Easy to use, can integrate and automate a lot. Could use some updates, honestly would like it to be more streamlined
Changes do not always save. Bank integration keeps breaking down. Automatic categorising of transactions is very hit and miss.
I don't think Quickbooks is the best out there - Xero, etc - lots of others. Quickbooks would be great if it worked as it looks like it should, but the problem is it's unreliable. Things you do don't save, and it has enough bugs that I really can't trust it as a system
Easy to use, can integrate and automate a lot.
Glitchy. Changes do not always save. Bank integration keeps breaking down. Automatic categorising of transactions is very hit and miss.
Accounting and invoicing
Simple for the end user. Easy to generate time reports. Cost is very low compared to other programs.
Form does not auto populate based on previous week's used timecodes. Dropdowns to not auto populate descriptive entries (such as client name). Not many rules incorporated into system (ex. does not log reason why someone changes their hours for a day after 24 hours). Tough for timesheet auditing.
Easy timesheet monitoring. Low cost for our HR department. Cloud based form so no need to install a program onto laptops. QuickBooks does have an app (I do not have it though).
What I like best about Quickbooks online is the accessibility of working wherever I have an internet connection
What I dislike it that the online version of quickbooks doesn’t save or prefill content where I’m repeating the same content
I’m solving problem that need me to have instant access to client information and realizing more benefits with clients in other states
It's easy to use and get started, no matter your skill level.
Sometimes there are bugs that can be frustrating. Support can sometimes make your problem worse.
Well every business needs accounting tools. For it's pricing and low entry to barrier, it's an easy tool to get started with.
Easy to use and very user friendly. Great
Interface is a bit complicated. Need improvements
Easy
If it was simply plug-and-play, it would be super convenient. The only thing I really like about it is that my CPA likes it. Once I got everything set up, it seems mostly intuitive.
Pretty much everything else. You can't delete an account, and you have to have one business per account. There's no option to have just one account with two businesses, so I have to have the Mac app installed and open, and then open a browser if I want to easily swap between the two accounts.
Benefit: My CPA knows it and prefers I use it. Problem: I need to track everything my businesses do and I need to report that to my CPA. This is the easiest way.
I guess QB is easy enough to learn and maneuver around
The one thing that I really hate about quickbooks is that we will write checks to people as a deposit. The deposit DOES NOT appear as paid on their account AT ALL. DOES NOT show up in the balance field or does not apply towards a reduction to what is owed to them. We have to "remember" or be directly on that vendor to see that a payment was already made. There is a ton of reliance on me and all individuals to ensure that a vendor is not overpaid due to this HUGE flaw in their system. I have talked to them about it and noticed others have as well and it seems to fall on deaf ears.
I had a company build me an inventory system that will help overcome the problem we are having above to where we enter the payments in the new system and will push it to QB in a timely manner. So, although QB will still not recognize the payment when I need to reduce their final payment, anyone who touches their invoice will see that $xx.xx was already paid to them and all the warning signs will indicate that a deposit will be made since I can't get QB to take notice of this huge flaw in this system. Because of this I have overpaid vendors over $50k!
