As a consultant with a single-member business, I just need a simple-to-navigate platform where I can clock consulting hours, create professional-looking invoices, and manage expenses. Freshbooks was recommended to me from a fellow consultant around five years ago, and I've stuck with it since. The customer service team is great and gets back to me quickly any time I reach out. I also like being able to take photos of my receipts with the Freshbooks app - easy breezy.
I create PDFs of invoices to send to my clients (due to their preference) rather than sending links to invoices on Freshbooks. Freshbooks used to add photos of receipts for billed expenses to these PDF invoices but no longer does, so I have to add those images to the invoice PDFs manually. I wish this was automated.
Anything that helps me work quickly with little thought put into the "admin side" of my business is a plus. That leaves me more time to focus on helping my clients reach their goals, rather than backend tasks.

My accounting was a mess before finding FreshBooks. Now at tax time, I have zero anxiety. Everything is perfectly packaged and ready for my accountant.

It is easy to focus in on the features you want to use. Unlike other tools that try to push you to use the features you don't, Freshbook has a simple user experience that allows you to use as much or as little of what they offer.
As we have started using more features we run into things that have been overlooked in the development such as the ability to have vendor's (the people you pay) contact information in the system.
Easy invoicing and many options to receive payment. I also like that I can see when a client has viewed the invoice so I know the best way to follow up.
I like the fact that it is not an overly complicated program that has everything I need to run my business in one place. While I do not offer payroll, I have looked into their app integrations and they seem to work very well. I do use it for contractors to submit their hours and collaborate on projects just not payroll.
I don't like the fact that for a flat-rate project, I cannot print out a report for all of the hours used against the project. I realize that it's a flat-rate, but I like to know how long we spent on each project for future reference. I would also like to see a client login area, but I guess they would have to sign up to view. I think in the Freshbooks Classic this was an option, but it's been a while...
Invoicing for hourly projects is a breeze with this program. I also like that people can pay online right then and there when they receive the invoice (although, some like to take their time...). I find the reports very easy and informative when tax season comes around--especially for my CPA!
I like having professional and attractive invoices automatically generated for me! I like tracking my expenses with it so I can see where my money is going. Creating projects and tracking hours directly in Freshbooks saves time and earns more money because I'm properly monitoring my work time.
I would like to be able to merge expenses more consistently. Sometimes I have to add an expense to properly bill it on time, and when my expenses sync with my bank, the same charge appears and I have no way to merge it, except to delete one of the entries. I wish I could create custom expense classifications and label the colors that are assigned to my clients.
My accountant had questions for me, and using Freshbooks' automatic reports, I had answers for them with just a few clicks! I also use the invoicing options, like getting paid from credit cards and automatic reminders for late payments. I can also automatically send my expenses to my accountant, so they don't have to hassle me for that information.
That I no longer have to track my business spending.
If I let a couple months go by without syncing my bank account sometimes it stops syncing and I’ve had a couple instances where I’ve had to manually input, which is frustrating.
I love that my spending is tracked efficiently which saves me hours and hours of time that I don’t have to create spreadsheet, etc. I also love how easy I can see my p&l and other figures.

I love that my accountant finds my information easily at tax time, I love the visual graphs and charts that keep me on the pulse of my businesses financial health.
I used to dislike that my imported bank account wasn't pinged often enough - but this was brought up to the Freshbooks team and they quickly fixed it. Now I have all my info on my recent expenses every time I log in.
I am solving the problem of getting a complete financial picture of my business in one place. I have realized a lot of benefits in expense tracking, financial forecasting and tax organization.
Some of my favorite features include the automated reminder emails, the ability accept pretty much any payment time (even cash, you just have record it), plus being able to snap pictures of expenses on the go.
The app sometimes crashes when uploading more than 1 expense at a time. Time tracking could also be a little faster to access, perhaps a seperate mini app (think Facebook Messenger vs Facebook)
Having clients in different states often means I'm working from the road a lot, Freshbooks allows me to easily keep track of invoices and expenses from any where.

Multiple databases require multiple accounts which costs extra.
Accounting is finally organized and under control. Clients are able to pay easily, and when they do, it's automatically entered into the accounting side.
The responsiveness of their customer service and the fact that they are open and willing to add suggested features.
Features of the old version are still being rolled out into the new one, but they've almost got all of them back now.

There's really nothing I can think of that I dislike about Freshbooks
I am able to quickly create and send invoices, see if they have been received, and keep track of them easily. It is helpful to be able to create estimates and then convert them into invoices if the project moves forward.
It is incredibly easy to use, clear and concise.
I really, really would like to get a monthly view back for time tracking. That was available in the old version and was super helpful.
It makes me WANT to sit down and do my invoicing. I never procrastinate about it anymore.

Solved the problem of my poor bookkeeping skills. It's much easier to track my hourly time and project fees, then generate invoices so I actually get paid for my work.
I like that the product is well designed for consultants who log their time, unlike Quick Books. It has also a solid API that helps integrating with additional solutions. Their support is also responsive.
1. I'd like more shortcuts and the ability to use macros for efficiency. 2. The internal reports are a bit weak... 3. Mobile app does not let use the timesheet functions, which should be its main purpose
